Working with our city's immigrant community has always been a privilege. I am honored to get to know each person I encounter, hear their stories, experience their culture and develop mutual aid.
I have seen and experienced so many beautiful moments of community, caring and support during my time within this community. Each member is always willing to support others however they can; language, a meal, time, a ride and even financial support.
Right now, many of these families are living in extreme fear that is causing them to miss work. Without working, families are faced with food insecurity, housing concerns and a lack of basic necessities. No one should be so afraid to leave their home that they lose their home.
Each of these people willingly and consistently bring unique skills, talents and contributions to their community without pause. I hope at this time our community can step in and support them in this time of need.
Urgent needs right now include rent, gas and electricity bills, phone bills, hygiene products, winter clothes and food. These funds will help families survive while they are being restricted to their homes for safety. No one deserves to live in fear and financial support would help take an immense load of stress from our immigrant community.
