This GoFundMe is for my friend Imelda. I work with Imelda at a local school and unfortunately, she has been there just under a year, so she does not qualify for FMLA. Imelda is an incredible mom to two amazing boys. She is the most understanding and kind human. Her faith is so inspiring and has stayed strong regardless of the trials she is experiencing.

In November Mel had a mammogram that found some areas that needed to be biopsied, and the results showed that she had ductal carcinoma. Due to this and other areas of damaged tissues she had to decide whether to pursue removal of the specific spot and cancer treatments or a double mastectomy with no further cancer treatments. Doctors advised that due to the cells being present and the damaged tissue she would be much more likely to recur. Thankfully due to early detection, chemotherapy and radiation are not necessary. As you can imagine though she has had numerous appointments and had to wrestle with the emotional roller coaster. She has her surgery scheduled for March 3 and will be out of work for 4-6 weeks.

As if that wasn’t enough on Feb 6th Mel was not feeling well. After being in so much pain she couldn’t sleep the night of the 6th she went to the hospital on the 7th. While at the hospital it was discovered she had appendicitis and needed surgery. On the 8th she had an appendectomy and will now have to miss an additional 2-3 weeks of work.

The financial strain of 6 weeks out of work was bad enough but adding an additional 3 weeks with no time to recover financially in between them is unthinkable. PLEASE join me in supporting this incredible woman through one of the darkest periods of her life. Throughout it all her faith in God has held strong and her humor has stayed present. I am so lucky to have her in my life, and I am so grateful for any help you can give.
