My names Herschell Michel and I’m 57 from Chauvin Louisiana. I’m trying this one more time because I honestly don’t know what else to do. I don’t know if I’m not saying things the right way, or if people just don’t see what I’m going through. But this is my reality. Ever since my heart attack, my life has completely changed. I was forced into early retirement, and everything has gone downhill from there. I’ve always been the kind of person who doesn’t ask for help, but I’ve now gone through all of my savings just trying to survive. I live in constant, severe pain every single day. I suffer from angina, arthritis throughout my entire body, degenerative bone disease, and neuropathy in my legs. The neuropathy causes burning, numbness, and weakness, making it even harder to stand or walk. The cushioning between my bones and nerves is gone, and now my bones are pressing directly on my nerves in my lower back and neck. Sitting, standing, walking, or even lying down—it never stops. I’ve tried everything the doctors recommended. Physical therapy didn’t help. Nerve ablation procedures didn’t work. Epidural injections gave no relief. Now they’re talking about spinal fusion surgery as a last option, just hoping it might help. On top of all that, I’m epileptic. The level of pain I’m in is so extreme that it’s triggering more seizures. I’m now having around two seizures a day, and it’s terrifying and exhausting. I’ve gotten to the point where I can barely walk, and I’m struggling just to get through each day. I’m trying to get back on my feet and become self-supporting again, but right now, I truly need help.
