Hi, my name is Hector Vargas, and I’m fundraising for my family and myself as I begin an unexpected battle with rectal cancer. Over the past three months, I’ve been dealing with ongoing bleeding that gradually became worse.

On Monday, December 8th, I had a colonoscopy, and doctors discovered a mass. After biopsies, I received the news no one ever wants to hear—the mass is malignant.

 I’m 31 years old. I’ve never smoked, never drank, and never used drugs, yet I now find myself facing a cancer diagnosis I never could have prepared for. While I’m staying strong and optimistic about my recovery, one of the hardest parts of this journey is knowing I can’t continue working.

I’ve always prided myself on taking care of my family, but my doctors have advised me to stop working as a mental health technician so I can focus on healing. Too much movement increases the bleeding, and continuing my job right now simply isn’t safe.

 This diagnosis came fast, and the financial impact is already overwhelming. With treatment beginning soon and no way to work, I’m asking for help to make sure my family’s basic needs are covered while I fight through this.
