My Dad Needs Help: A Message From Bonnie, Greg Trnka’s Daughter
On November 29, 2025, my dad, Greg Trnka went to an emergency clinic suffering from the flu. None of us ever imagined this routine visit would turn into a life-changing nightmare. While there, Greg suffered a terrible fall that caused a severe head injury, a broken neck, and a stroke. In a single moment, our world changed and was turned upside down.
This tragedy came just 13 days after another devastating loss; Greg’s son, my brother Gregory, died unexpectedly on November 16. Still grieving, we were hit with this unimaginable life-changing tragedy.
Due to the seriousness of his injuries, Greg was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami, Florida, a Level 1 Trauma Center, where he also contracted a dangerous MRSA infection. On November 30, he underwent an almost 10-hour surgery to reconstruct his cervical spine. The surgery was critical and lifesaving, and it marked the beginning of a long and challenging road to recovery.
On December 8, 2025, Greg was transferred to the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center in Miami, where he remains today, pushing himself through intensive inpatient rehabilitation six days a week. Every single day, Greg shows a strength and determination that humbles me. Even on the hardest days, his resilience, courage, and positive spirit shine through and inspire everyone around him.
This crisis has also placed a tremendous burden on Greg’s wife, Faith. She is by his side every day, managing medical decisions and advocating for him, all while living far from home and her support system. She is exhausted, heartbroken, and doing everything she can to help Greg fight his courageous battle.
I am incredibly grateful that they have health insurance and a supportive employer, both of which have helped significantly. Even so, Greg’s recovery requires specialized care far from home for an extended period of time. He will need ADA compliant housing near the Center for outpatient therapy that may cost upwards of $10,000 each month, not including travel, food, medical needs, and daily living expenses. The related expenses are unavoidable, and his care not optional. It is a necessity for him to heal and to gain independence.
Greg and Faith have had the privilege of taking care of others at the Galleon Resort in Key West for decades, and they have worked tirelessly. They have dedicated their lives to helping others, along with the incredible Galleon Resort staff, and now they need help.
People always say it takes a village. Right now, they truly need ours. We are asking for support from The Galleon family, friends, our community, and anyone moved to help to make this long journey to recovery a little easier for them.
This GoFundMe will help ease the crushing financial burden of Greg’s recovery and allow him to focus on what truly matters: helping Greg to heal physically and emotionally, to rebuild after unimaginable loss, and giving him every chance possible to recover.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, sharing, donating, and praying. Every act of kindness gives my dad strength and gives our family hope.
Thank you for being part of his healing journey.
