My name is Rafael Carbajal, and I am creating this GoFundMe with humility, hope, and love for my wife, Funanya Carbajal.

Funanya and I are both elementary school teachers, and our lives are centered around caring for others. Every day, we pour our hearts into teaching, nurturing, and supporting young students, often placing the needs of our classrooms and families before our own. Recently, however, our lives were turned upside down when Funanya was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of breast cancer that requires intensive chemotherapy.

As Funanya begins this fight, she has been forced to step away from work for the next 6–8 months so she can focus fully on treatment and healing. While we both work, the loss of her income during this time—combined with mounting medical expenses—has created a significant financial strain. Chemotherapy is not only physically and emotionally exhausting, but also financially overwhelming. Between treatments, medical bills, and everyday living expenses, the weight of it all can feel unbearable.

My focus right now is on being the strongest support system I can be for my wife—standing beside her, caring for her, and helping her through this journey—without the constant fear of how we will manage financially. That is why I am reaching out for help.

Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward chemotherapy-related costs, medical expenses, and essential living needs while Funanya focuses on what matters most: her health, strength, and recovery.
