Evan and his kids, Amari (6), Reiko (4), and Embrie (2) need your support to make it through the aftermath of a SIDS death, mental health crisis, and layoff. To help them navigate this insurmountable situation, we’re raising funds and seeking support in the form of:
- Info about low cost pediatric mental health resources,
- employment opportunities
- And housing in Westside, Culver City or near that area.
As you may know, Evan lost his 8 week old daughter, Itzel Maeve, to SIDS earlier this year. Amari, Reiko and Embrie have been struggling to adapt to life without their baby sister. Their mother was overwhelmed by grief and unable to cope. Previously a stay at home mother, she has been in rehab since August.
Evan has been struggling to navigate the financial burden while balancing his parental responsibilities and grief.
Childcare expenses drained the family’s already tight savings. This means no safety net at a time when they need support the most. Following rehab, their mother will be relocating to San Diego County where she has a support network of her own. For the foreseeable future, Evan is be a single father to three children.
To make an already terrible situation worse, Evan recently learned his contract will not be renewed on 12/31/25, rendering him collateral damage in the latest round of tech layoffs. Because he is a contractor, this will not be accompanied with any severance package. Without a job and because of the aforementioned sudden financial demands, they don’t even have enough savings to pay January’s rent.
That’s why we’re asking for your help. Even a small donation - $18. $36, whatever you can give - will help them feel supported, seen, and cared for as they navigate an extremely difficult time.
- By January 1st, they need $5000 to pay for rent on short term housing and cost of living expenses, including food and utilities.
- By January 15th, they need $2500 for relocation costs as Evan locates more affordable housing arrangements.
- By February 1st, they need $5000 to pay first months rent and security deposit on a longer-term place, and for living expenses..
In addition to spreading the word, there are a few other ways to help the Cofsky family.
External Resources for Families in Need:
- Evan is already seeking the support of Jewish Family Services and other local resources, but if you know of emergency financial assistance for families in distress or subsidized mental health support (particularly pediatric therapists for Amari, Reiko, and Embrie), please let us know.
- Temporary or Permanent Employment: Evan is looking for a new job, but anticipates that this will be a challenging endeavor given the economic situation. While he is open to anything right now, he has particular expertise in Software Engineering, especially design and implementation of large scale systems, and in all the latest AI tech.
- Housing: If you know someone who might be able or willing to rent to Evan either short or long term on the Westside, Culver City or near that area at a reduced rate, please get in touch.
If you’re unable to give, simply sharing this fundraiser would mean the world to them.
Thank you for your kindness, support, prayers, and love during this devastating time. Let’s come together as a community and show them they are not alone.
