Eilimar is a resilient young woman who has lived more than her share of trauma and difficulties in her short life. She recently relocated from Texas, where her six year old son and partner were taken from her by ICE and deported a few months ago. Her partner was out with a friend and her son in the car and stopped to get gas when he was surrounded by ICE and taken into custody. When she picked up the phone, the ICE official said she had 20 minutes to get there to pick up her son or they would take them both. Eilimar had no transportation and frantically tried to get a ride from a friend but couldn’t get there in time. In a matter of minutes, her entire life changed. In the months that followed, Eilimar struggled to pay rent and experienced mistreatment at her hotel cleaning job so she quit and started working in roofing. She had trouble sleeping, lost a pregnancy, and came down with an illness that made her legs swell and sent her to the emergency room where she unwittingly amassed thousands of dollars in debt.

Eilimar originally left her home country of Venezuela to live in Colombia with the father of her son. He mistreated her and she experienced domestic and sexual violence in their home so she fled to Texas. There she found her partner, who she knew from their small town back home and he became the only family she had in the US. She misses her partner and son dearly but says that “luckily” they were deported before the natural disaster happened so that her child is now at home with her mother, rather than lingering in detention for months as many others are now.

Eilimar needs support to cover her basic needs and start to dig her way out of her medical debt, being scammed by immigration lawyers, and a telephone contract she can’t afford anymore. She is looking for work and has an urgency to send funds home to support her family. Her dream is to earn enough to build a house back home next to her mother’s and return once things improve in her country.

Contributions of any size to this fundraiser will be much appreciated to support this young mother on her own.
