Standing with Dontae Through His Healing Journey

Hello, my name is India Henderson, and I am writing this on behalf of my oldest brother, Dontae Bunche. Our family is reaching out to ask for support during a very difficult time in his life.

Dontae is a proud veteran of the United States Army and is currently dedicated to giving back to his community through his work in the local school district. He is a hardworking individual who is passionate about working with children. Dontae also cherishes his role as an uncle to his nieces and nephews, who hold him in great affection. He aspires to have children of his own in the future.

In November 2025, Dontae’s life took a significant turn. Over the past three months, he has been frequently hospitalized due to severe pain in his leg. After multiple tests, doctors discovered a tumor that has been deteriorating the bone, rendering him unable to walk. Recently, his surgeon informed him that amputation of the leg might be necessary.

We have been awaiting results from the doctor with hope, but unfortunately, the tumor has severely affected Dontae’s bone, making it unsalvageable.

As a result, Dontae underwent a below-the-knee amputation of his left leg on February 2, 2026. Since then, he has been engaged in physical therapy and healing in preparation for chemotherapy, which began on March 10, 2026. During his recovery and while awaiting a full-body CT scan, a lymph node developed in his upper left thigh. The scan results revealed the unfortunate news that the cancer has spread to his groin, pelvic area, and his lungs.

Dontae has been unable to work since November due to his medical condition and is expected to remain out of work until September 2026. We respectfully disagree with the prognosis that labels his condition as incurable and imposes a time limit on his life expectancy. We are actively seeking additional medical opinions, treatments, and care options.

With access to outstanding resources, we have decided to enhance Dontae’s support and care by providing him with treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Central Houston, TX, recognized as the #1 cancer hospital in the United States. To ensure he can receive this exceptional care, we are seeking your support.

Given this situation, we are also requesting assistance with funds to support the next six to eight months as he continues his treatment journey. The state benefits Dontae currently receives will end after 16 weeks—just two weeks from now—leaving him responsible for all expenses out of pocket, which could become financially overwhelming.

These expenses include rent, utilities, food, transportation, and travel costs for medical appointments and treatments. During this period, Dontae will need to cover all living and medical-related expenses independently.

Our goal is to raise up to $50,000 to help cover these costs over the next six to eight months while we pursue treatment and recovery.

Any support you can provide will greatly help ease the financial burden during this challenging time. Thank you for your consideration.
