Dear kind-hearted individuals, My name is Ashlyn, and I am reaching out to share the story of my beloved mother-in-law, Deborah Grier. Deborah has faced numerous health challenges, including but not limited to: multiple cancers, dementia, suspected sundowners, recurrent major depressive disorder, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, bone disorder, fibromyositis, emphysema, chronic pain and anxiety disorders. On January 23rd, 2026 she took a turn for the worse and was taken into the hospital because of a dramatic decline in her health, they discovered she had an abscess on the left side of her brain and almost completely covering her left lung. As a result of the brain surgery she had to undergo on January 27th, 2026, she has lost most of her cognitive and physical abilities, leaving her unable to care for herself. The medical expenses and ongoing care that Deborah requires are substantial and extend beyond what her insurance covers. By the Grace of God, yesterday afternoon we received the phone call that the costs associated with her intensive rehabilitation, was finally approved after multiple days of it being declined. Furthermore, once she returns home, we will also need to provide extensive home healthcare, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and essential personal care. Unfortunately, our family's work commitments and the distance between us make it challenging to offer the level of support Deborah needs. We estimate that we will need to cover approximately $40,000 for her immediate needs, which includes renovating the home to accommodate her care, as well as the ongoing expenses of home health care that will come.
