Help Danielle Rebuild After Surviving a Gunshot While Driving for Uber

My name is Danielle, and on the morning of June 20, 2026, my life changed forever.

While driving for Uber in Philadelphia, I was waiting for my passenger to come outside for their scheduled ride when an armed, masked man suddenly approached my driver’s side window and pointed a gun directly at me.

Fearing for my life, I tried to escape. As I pulled away, I was shot just feet from my passenger’s pickup location.

I survived.

The gunshot left me with multiple fractured ribs, a fractured shoulder blade, and a collapsed lung that required emergency chest tubes. During my hospitalization, I also developed pneumonia, making an already painful recovery even more difficult. Although the bullet remains in my body, my doctors determined it is safer to leave it in place.

Recovery has been far more challenging than I ever imagined. Even taking a deep breath has been painful at times, and simple daily tasks like walking, getting dressed, showering, reaching for something, or getting in and out of bed have required far more effort than I ever expected. I am continuing to work through physical therapy to regain my strength and independence while also healing from the emotional and psychological trauma of surviving such a violent attack.

As an Uber driver, I depended on driving to support myself and my precious 7-year-old daughter. Because of my injuries, I am currently unable to work, and I don’t know when I’ll be able to return. The loss of income, ongoing medical expenses, damage to my personal vehicle, and the financial strain of everyday living have created an overwhelming burden at a time when my only focus should be healing.

More than anything, I want to get back to being the active, present mom my daughter deserves. Right now, even the simplest moments with her can be physically challenging, and that has been one of the hardest parts of this journey. My goal is to heal, regain my independence, return to work, and provide the stable life she deserves.

The funds raised will help with:

Medical expenses and ongoing treatment

Physical therapy and rehabilitation

Prescription medications

Trauma informed counseling and mental health support

Lost income while I recover

Rent, utilities, groceries, and other essential living expenses for my daughter and me

Law enforcement is actively investigating this violent crime. While I hope those responsible are brought to justice, my focus right now is on healing, rebuilding my life, and creating a sense of safety and stability for my daughter and me.

My life has changed forever, and while I know it may never be the same, I refuse to let this tragedy define who I am. With time, support, determination, and a lot of hard work, I hope to rebuild my life one step at a time.
