Hello, my name is Shelby and I am Dale Thompson’s daughter. My dad was the Grady County Emergency Management Director for the last 28.5 years. My dad had open heart surgery on February 10th and remains in the hospital. On June 29, 2026, all three County Commissioners voted to terminate my dad’s employment, effective July 15th, 2026. That notification was delivered to him in the hospital via certified mail. 28.5 years of dedicated service and he was fired by mail. They are cutting off his health insurance tomorrow, July 31, and he is still in the hospital. The District 2 Commissioner would not allow anyone to donate time to him, even though he could have received 2080 hours in a 12-month timeframe. He would be eligible to retire on December 31st of this year if he so decided. Since the commissioner wouldn’t allow him to receive any time, he hasn’t received a paycheck for June or July. My sister and I are afraid he is going to lose everything he and my mom spent their whole lives and careers building. With my mom being in long term care, we cannot afford to cover his expenses, past due bills, and mortgage. We just want to make sure he has a home to come back to when he gets out within the next couple of weeks. Any help would truly be appreciated.
