Our Dad. Our Provider, Our Heart, Our ALS Journey

A little over a month ago, our family received news that no family is ever prepared to hear: our dad was diagnosed with ALS.

Trying to put into words what that diagnosis has done to our family is almost impossible.

Dad has always been the one who worked hard to provide for his family. He has been the person his children could depend on and the one who spent his life making sure his family had what they needed.

He is a father to 9 children, with his youngest being just 10 years old, and a grandfather to 12 grandchildren, ranging from 10 years old all the way down to just 1 month old.

He has spent his life taking care of everyone else.

Now, we are watching the disease take pieces of him away far faster than any of us were prepared for.

In just a few short months, Dad’s mobility has significantly decreased. Things that once seemed so simple are becoming difficult. Watching someone who has always been so independent begin to lose his ability to move around the way he used to is heartbreaking.

And this is only the beginning of a journey none of us wanted to take.

ALS is a progressive disease with no cure. As it continues to progress, Dad will likely need increasing amounts of medical equipment, mobility devices, supplies, medications, and other care. Those expenses can quickly become overwhelming.

And because Dad was the main source of income for his family, this diagnosis doesn’t just affect his health. It affects his ability to work, provide, and take care of the people who have always depended on him.

We don’t know exactly what the months ahead will look like. We don’t know how quickly this disease will progress or what equipment Dad will need next. What we do know is that we want to make sure that money is never the reason he goes without something that could make his life easier, safer, or more comfortable.

We want Dad to be able to focus on what matters most: his children, his grandchildren, and making memories with the people he loves. ❤️

So today, we are swallowing our pride and asking for help.

We are starting this fundraiser to help with Dad’s monthly prescriptions, medical expenses, mobility equipment, future medical devices, supplies, and other unexpected costs that will come with this devastating disease.

If you know our dad, you know he would probably be the first person to help someone else and the last person to ask for help himself.

So we’re asking for him. ❤️

If you are able to donate, no amount is too small. Every $5, $10, $20, or whatever you are comfortable giving can help us provide something Dad may need along this journey.

If you can’t donate, please share this post. A share costs nothing, but it could put Dad’s story in front of someone who can help.

And if all you can do is pray, please pray for him. Pray for strength, comfort, more time, and for the days ahead to be filled with moments that our family will treasure forever.

Dad has spent his life taking care of us.

Now it’s our turn to take care of him.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out, prayed, checked on him, shared his story, or simply taken a moment to care.

We have a long road ahead of us, but Dad will not walk it alone.

Please help us surround him with the same love he has spent his entire life giving to us.
