My name is Jessica Yox and I am one of Michele Bigelow’s cousins. I’m starting this fundraiser to support Michele and her fiancé, Corey Roberson, during an incredibly frightening and unexpected medical crisis.
On December 8, 2025, Corey went to the hospital with what seemed like the flu. He was initially sent home and told that he would need to stay off work for a few weeks. A few days later, Corey suddenly became disoriented and his heart rate spiked to a terrifying 235 beats per minute. He was rushed back to the hospital, where doctors discovered that Corey, an incredibly healthy 39-year-old, had suffered a stroke. The first four days of hospitalization were incredibly scary, as they could not stabilize him and if he had a second stroke, the impact would likely end his life.
During his 12 day stay in the hospital, it was discovered that this catastrophic event also triggered dormant autoimmune issues. Now in addition to recovering from the stroke, Corey will have a lifelong battle with autoimmune concerns.
Understandably, Michele, Corey, and their six-year-old son Carter's lives have been turned upside down. Since initially leaving the hospital, Corey has had five additional days of hospitalization and has a very long road to recovery.
Corey is currently unable to work while he heals. Although his union will hold his position, he will not receive compensation during this time. He initially believed he would be covered through Aflac, only to learn that his policy covers accidents, not critical illness. Learning this was a devastating discovery and we’re now needing to turn to our community for help.
Corey requires a caretaker at this time, so Michele is also currently unable to work. This fundraiser is meant to cover basic living costs (rent, food, transportation, etc.) while their household is without income so they can focus on healing and getting through this incredibly scary and traumatic event together.
Any donation, no matter the size, and even just sharing this page, means more than words can express. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
