Yesterday, my country was shaken.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia, with its epicenter in Chocó, in western Colombia.

And for me, this is not just something I am watching on the news.

This is home. I am Colombian. I was born in Buenaventura and raised in Cali.

My little brother, who passed away, was from Chocó. His family is there, and they have been impacted by this earthquake.

My sister lives in Roldanillo, in Valle del Cauca, one of the towns deeply affected. They were forced to sleep on the floor of their restaurant because their house is not safe.

I was born in Buenaventura, one of the forgotten territories in Colombia.

I know people in other cities impacted by this earthquake.

And then there is Cali... the city where I was raised, also feeling the devastation.

I have cried so much.

I have been scared.

I have felt completely helpless being here while my family and my people are going through this.

I know what it feels like to want to do something and not know what to do.

But I also know that standing here feeling powerless is not going to help anyone.

So I am choosing to turn that pain into action.

I am setting up a GoFundMe to raise funds for the communities affected by this earthquake.

And I want to be very intentional about how that money is used.

The funds raised will be transferred to my trusted team in Colombia. They will purchase essential supplies and take them directly to donation centers where I know they will end up in the hands of the people who need them most.

Food.

Water.

Hygiene supplies.

Essential necessities.

We want to help in a way that is direct, transparent, and as close to the people as possible.

I know I cannot rebuild every home.

I cannot take away the fear.

I cannot undo what has happened.

But I can help.

And I believe that when we come together, our collective love becomes action.

Ayer, mi país se estremeció.

Un terremoto de magnitud 7.4 sacudió a Colombia, con epicentro en el Chocó, en el occidente del país.

Y para mí, esto no es simplemente algo que estoy viendo en las noticias.

Esto es mi casa.

Soy colombiana. Nací en Buenaventura y crecí en Cali.

Mi hermanito, que ya no está con nosotros, era del Chocó. Su familia está allá y también ha sido afectada por este terremoto.

Mi hermana vive en Roldanillo, en el Valle del Cauca, uno de los municipios más afectados. Se vieron obligados a dormir en el piso de su restaurante porque su casa no es segura.

Yo nací en Buenaventura, uno de los territorios olvidados de Colombia.

Conozco personas en otras ciudades que también han sido afectadas por este terremoto.

Y luego está Cali... la ciudad donde crecí, que también está sintiendo la devastación.

He llorado muchísimo.

He tenido miedo.

Me he sentido completamente impotente estando aquí mientras mi familia y mi gente están pasando por todo esto.

Sé lo que se siente querer hacer algo y no saber qué hacer.

Pero también sé que quedarme aquí sintiéndome impotente no va a ayudar a nadie.

Así que estoy eligiendo transformar este dolor en acción.

Estoy creando un GoFundMe para recaudar fondos para las comunidades afectadas por este terremoto.

Y quiero ser muy intencional con la manera en que utilizamos ese dinero.

Los fondos recaudados serán enviados a mi equipo de confianza en Colombia. Ellos comprarán elementos de primera necesidad y los llevarán directamente a centros de acopio, donde sé que terminarán en las manos de las personas que más los necesitan.

Alimentos.

Agua.

Elementos de higiene.

Artículos de primera necesidad.

Queremos ayudar de una manera directa, transparente y lo más cerca posible de las personas que necesitan nuestra ayuda.

Sé que no puedo reconstruir todas las casas.

No puedo quitarles el miedo.

No puedo deshacer lo que ha sucedido.

Pero sí puedo ayudar.

Y creo que cuando nos unimos, nuestro amor colectivo se convierte en acción.
