We created this GoFundMe to support 21 year old Chaniya Kamau, who is bravely fighting for her health.
On March 3, 2026, Chaniya was admitted to Overlake Hospital after experiencing severe body pain, dangerously high blood pressure, and other concerning symptoms. As doctors ran tests, they discovered that multiple organs were inflamed. Over the following weeks, her condition rapidly escalated, and she was transferred to Swedish Hospital in Seattle for more specialized care.
Chaniya was diagnosed with Lupus by her rheumatology team. Unfortunately, her body did not respond well to treatments, and her symptoms continued to worsen. She was eventually moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she remained for two weeks. During that time, doctors discovered that she also has Thrombotic Microangiopathy (TMA)—a rare and serious medical condition—causing her body to reject many of the treatments meant to help her heal.
Throughout this ongoing journey, Chaniya has endured countless tests, biopsies, blood transfusions, plasma treatments, and medications. She experiences significant pain and currently requires kidney dialysis, oxygen support, steroids, and physical therapy. A dedicated team of doctors continues to work tirelessly to stabilize her condition and help her regain strength. Once she is able to leave the hospital, Chaniya will still need ongoing dialysis, medications, treatments, and physical therapy, making recovery a long and uncertain process. Each day brings new challenges.
Despite all she is facing, Chaniya remains the same kind, caring, and selfless person she has always been. She volunteers as a youth leader at Eastridge Church, where she has been a blessing to many. Before becoming ill, she worked parttime and was enrolled in the nursing program at Bellevue College, pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse so she could care for others. For now, that dream has been put on hold as she focuses on healing.
We humbly ask you to stand with Chaniya during this critical time. If you are able, please consider making a donation—no amount is too small, and every contribution brings her one step closer to recovery. If donating isn’t possible, you can still make a powerful impact by sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, church community, and social networks, and by keeping Chaniya lifted in prayer.
Your generosity will help relieve the heavy financial burden of medical expenses and ongoing care, allowing Chaniya and her family to focus fully on healing.
Together, we can surround her with hope, strength, and love. Thank you for being part of her journey.
