Chan is a devoted father of four, including two children who still fully rely on him, as well as my mother, Kristin. He is the primary source of income for our household, and after recently switching jobs, he does not currently have health insurance. This has made the challenges our family is facing even more difficult.
Recently, Chan began experiencing swelling in his legs and feet that gradually worsened, along with trouble breathing. He was admitted to a local hospital, and after further examination and testing, we learned that only 10% of his heart was functioning properly and he had a 100% blockage. Chan underwent a heart cath procedure, but the cardiologist determined that his heart could not withstand surgery. Attempts to transfer Chan to a higher level of care facility for a double bypass were denied due to the severity of his condition. Multiple transfer requests have been sent to hospitals throughout North Carolina, but none have accepted Chan yet. For now, the doctors are draining off the remaining fluid while Chan remains in the hospital, waiting for his heart to heal enough for surgery. Once he is able to return home, he will be provided with a defibrillator vest to help manage his condition.
The funds raised through this campaign will help pay for the monthly rental of the defibrillator vest, hospital bills, and other expenses related to Chan’s medical condition, especially since he does not have health insurance yet. Our family knows that not everyone may be in a position to donate, but your prayers and support mean the world to us.
