Camila has spent the last year in and out of the hospital, mostly in. battling a rare and very aggressive, pediatric cancer - Ewing sarcoma. She was diagnosed just 3 days before the birth of her baby sister, Celina.
She has completed 14 rounds of chemotherapy & a total of 36 days of radiation, 30 of these were targeting her primary tumor location and the remaining five were for some additional spots that had presented on her original PET scan.
As a family we spent over a month at the Ronald McDonald house when Camila did radiation. Dad was unable to stay home and work due to the baby being only five months which limits my abilities is at certain appointments. As you can imagine it was extremely great to have him there with us especially since it was such an extended amount of time, but it was also very hard financially. We learned very quickly that even when your life is falling apart, the world keeps moving.
I (Diega) I’ve been running my own business for the last five years & that is now put on hold due to constant scheduling inconsistencies. Managing this diagnosis, postpartum & everything in between has been pretty hard to say the least.
Camila’s primary care is located just over 100 miles from our house, and her chemotherapies were biweekly, with local blood labs in between treatment.
Currently Camila is 7 & working to re-build the life that was halted at only six. She is getting back in the groove of school & getting lots of time with her friends.
She is still receiving a monthly infusion (antibiotic b/c port) and she will have scans every THREE months at her main hosp. OHSU. With the first post treatment scans being April 7th. Her cancer unfortunately has a fairly high relapse rate & not many more chemotherapy options as she has already had her lifetime supply of a few important medicines.
Having your world shifted in this way is something that I hope you never have to experience & from the bottom of my heart thank you for reading our story, donating, prayers… all the support has kept us going through this.
As a mother, all we want is the best for our kids, we are learning to make the best of this life despite all the hardships we’ve faced.
THANK YOU
❤️
