Help Benazir Noorzad Fight for Her Future

Our friend and coworker needs us now more than ever. With her immigration hearing scheduled for November 4, every day matters.

On October 22, 2026, Benazir Noorzad, a beloved member of the Genesee County Human Resources team, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. She is currently being held at Calhoun County Correctional Center in Battle Creek and urgently needs legal representation.

Benazir is a kind, compassionate and soft-spoken person who has made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She came to the United States from Afghanistan in 2021 as a Fulbright scholar, earned a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University and has worked hard to build a future here.

Her safety may be at risk if she is forced to return to Afghanistan.

Benazir’s family supported the United States in Afghanistan, including the U.S. military’s mission there. Because of these family ties, her loved ones fear she could face Taliban retaliation, persecution, imprisonment or even death if deported. For her family, this is a deeply frightening possibility, and the need for legal support is urgent.

How Your Donation Can Help

We are raising funds to help cover:

  • Immigration attorney fees to help Benazir fight her case and protect her future.
  • Immigration bond to help secure her release from detention. Bond amounts in cases like hers can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the judge and the circumstances. If bond is granted and paid, release may be possible within days.
  • Lost wages and essential living expenses to help ease the financial burden during this difficult time.
  • Additional legal and emergency costs as her case moves forward.

With her November 4 hearing approaching, we need our community to come together now. Every donation, whether $5, $25 or more, can help ease the financial burden and give Benazir access to the legal support she urgently needs.

If you cannot donate, please share this fundraiser with your friends, family and community. Every share helps her story reach someone who may be able to make a difference.

Benazir is more than an immigration case. She is our friend, our coworker and someone who deserves the opportunity to pursue her future without fear. We cannot promise an outcome, but we can stand beside her and help her fight for one.

Please help us stand with Benazir. Her safety matters. Her future matters. And right now, she needs us. ❤️

Thank you for every donation, share, prayer and act of kindness.
