My cousin, Aliza Sanchez, is currently in the hospital fighting for her life against Anti- NMDA receptor encephalitis. She is only 20 years old, and it’s devastating to see someone so young face something so serious.

Not long ago, she was living a happy, normal life spending time at the dog park with her child, her dog, and her husband. In what feels like a moment, everything changed.

Autoimmune Encephalitis is a rare condition where the immune system attacks the brain, and it has turned her world and all of ours completely upside down.

Her recovery is expected to be long, and uncertain, with doctors estimating it could take anywhere from 3 to 6 months—or longer—for her to begin healing and regaining her strength.

Even in the middle of this unimaginable battle, Aliza continues to fight with incredible strength and courage every single day. Watching her endure this is heartbreaking, but it’s also a testament to how strong she truly is.

Our family is doing everything we can to support her, but the emotional, physical, and financial weight of this has been overwhelming. Our goal is to raise enough money to help ensure Aliza has access to the best care, and that her family can cover some expenses of being by her side and supporting her 24/7.
