My daughter was born on 12/4/2004. For most of her life, I had full physical and legal custody. At the age of 16, she requested to go live with her father. As a nurse dealing with Covid-19, I agreed. I felt she would be safer with her father in Massachusetts as I was on the front lines and worried about infection. After moving, she suddenly didn't want anything to do with me despite my pleas. Leila's father has since encouraged no contact. I began paying child support, which was fine with me, but continued to be left in the dark. Contact was cut off from not only myself but my entire family. We have tried repeatedly since that time to no avail. When Leila turned 21 on 12/4/26, Massachusetts began refunding my payments and stated that I am no longer required to pay.

In March, to my surprise...

I was served with a child support request to pay longer from 21-24 years of age now. I have retained a lawyer, but I am struggling to keep my head above water already, as I am sure most Americans are.

I had to deal with the anguish of having no contact with my daughter since age 16 and paid until 21. Now I am expected to continue this heartbreak. If you know me, you know I only have goodness in my heart, and I just want to put this behind me. I don't feel I deserve to be Leila's financial backer anymore as she is an adult.

It takes a lot for me to ask for help. I have been independent since 18 and always tried my best to be as independent as possible. Unfortunately, I am in this situation, so I made this page in hopes that a few dollars from many can make a big dent in my fight.

I refuse to continue to let her father give me no information. I refuse to have my family and I cut off from the child, now a young adult, only to remain a financial backer.

Anything could help. I don't know what else to do at this point. It is now requested to pay from 21 years of age until 24. When is enough... enough? When you can't even see or speak to your child, he holds all the cards, and I want to fight back.
