Give JJ a Voice Through ABA Therapy

I never imagined I would be here — asking for help like this. But when it comes to my son, I will do whatever it takes.

My son JJ is 5 years old, autistic, and nonverbal. He is the most beautiful, loving, pure soul… and he deserves the same chance at life, communication, and independence as any other child.

Right now, JJ struggles to communicate his needs, his feelings, and his world. As his mom, there is nothing more heartbreaking than knowing he has so much inside of him but no reliable way to express it. I see his frustration. I feel his overwhelm. And I carry the weight of wanting to give him every possible tool to succeed.

That’s where ABA therapy comes in.

ABA therapy has the potential to completely change JJ’s life — helping him build communication skills, regulate his emotions, and navigate the world more safely and confidently. It’s not just therapy… it’s a chance for him to have a voice.

Unfortunately, privatized ABA therapy is extremely expensive, and despite how critical it is, it’s not accessible for our family without help.

On top of that, the unpredictability of JJ’s needs means I’m unable to work in a consistent way. The anxiety, the constant advocacy, the sleepless nights, and the emotional toll of trying to hold everything together while fighting for services has brought me to a breaking point.

From the outside, I know it might look like I’m holding it all together. I try to. I smile, I push through, I advocate — because JJ needs me to. But the truth is, this journey is heavy, isolating, and relentless.

I am not asking for luxury. I am asking for a chance — for my son.
