Captain David Colbert was born and raised in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Dave started serving the citizens of Jefferson County in 1997 when the Shepherdstown Police Department hired him. He continued serving the community when the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office hired him in 1999. After 23 years of service, Dave progressed through the ranks and is currently a Captain with this agency. He spent his entire adult life serving others, and now it's time that he needs help.

Dave lives in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, with his wife of 23 years, Laura, who also serves the community through her employment as an elementary school counselor with Jefferson County Schools. They are blessed with four amazing children.

On June 16, 2022, Dave and Laura received the horrible news that Dave had Stage 4 renal cell cancer, which would require multiple treatments and surgeries. Dave is committed to fighting this battle with all of his might. Dave remains spiritually, emotionally, and physically strong and is determined to beat this deadly cancer.
