Standing Tall with Alan
Donation protected
Hey all,
My name is Brittany and I am setting this up for my amazing dad, Alan.
Those who know him, know that he is a social butterfly that has never met a stranger and would give anyone the shirt off his back.
He is one of the kindest, goofiest, and "dad-joke" funny men I know.
My dad has turned his gift of sign language interpreting into a passion for helping others.
Traveling to grade schools, high schools, colleges, hospitals, and anywhere else there is a need to be the voice for others who may not receive the same amount of care due to a language barrier.
Many know that 2022 tested his strength mentally and emotionally as he lost his home and his marriage of 27 years.
During that time, I was there for him through all the ups and downs and he conquered every obstacle that was put in his path.
He is one of the strongest men I know and just when we thought he was finally winning at this thing called life, he had a massive hemorrhagic stroke and almost did not make it..
He was in the ICU for almost 2 weeks in critical condition, while everyone closely monitored the bleeding in his brain.
With every passing day, those who loved him stood by his side praying for even the smallest glimpse of recovery.
After almost 2 weeks, he was finally cleared to be released to the rehabilitation hospital - where he would stay for almost another month.
There he would undergo intense physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy or as my dad would call it - "military boot camp all over again".
As each week passed, I saw my dad struggle not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally, as the words he wanted to express couldn't be voiced and the body that he had known for years was trapped inside the body he was now stuck inside, unable to move.
As of today, 3 months later, he still has no use of his left arm and his left leg is slowly making progress but is still not fully functioning.
He made a living from sign language interpreting and cannot work now due to this tragic incident.
While they had no other choice, my dad lost his contracts because of this as well..
He is still undergoing tons of therapy, in every category, but he still has bills that are adding up as life does not stop when a medical emergency occurs.
Please join us in standing tall for him and helping him get back on his feet financially -- so he can focus on getting back on his feet physically.
