Standing Tall for Shorty - Help Sergio Martin
Donation protected
A family man, responsible in his work, and sociable with friends and strangers. Sergio always looks out for the good of his children and his wife. He is always willing to help those in need without looking for something in return. February 14 started like any other Sunday with Sergio making breakfast as he tended to do on the weekends. However, as we would later find out this day was not like any other and would turn out to be one of the worst days of our lives. At around 3:20 in the afternoon, Sergio felt a sharp pain in the right side of his head and began to sweat profusely. His left arm began to get numb and he was beginning to lose his balance. As we saw these symptoms arise, we decided to quickly call 911. Sergio was conscious throughout this whole process, even making sure to tell us to give the paramedics his insurance card. These events are still hard to grasp and the images of seeing Sergio being taken away by paramedics is an image that is difficult to erase. Once in the hospital the doctors performed a CAT scan of his head. The neurologist told us that what happened to Sergio was a bit strange because he is young, 53 years old, and his high blood pressure might not have been the only factor. Not only is this situation difficult because of what happened but also because we, as a family, cannot be there with him in person. However, we are there with him in spirit and most importantly God is there with him and with us. We are very grateful because we know that so many people are praying for him, even people that do not know him. We have received countless phone calls of co-workers and friends who have reached out to us to offer their support and we can’t explain how much that means to us as a family. Sergio is currently stable, his heart, blood pressure, lungs, and kidneys are good. He is currently undergoing a procedure to alleviate the pressure in his brain which involves draining blood from his brain. He is currently at Orange County Global Medical Center. Sergio is the head of the household and the head of this family and we are confident that God will bring him back home with us to continue sharing time with his family. It is not easy for us to ask for help but this situation is difficult for us as a family. We still do not know the hospital costs nor do we know how much his insurance will cover. There are many payments to make from everyday expenses like food and rent among possible medications he will need in the future. We don’t want Sergio to continue to stress over payments and for this reason we ask for your help as a family in need and to help a man who never thinks twice about helping others when he has the chance.
