My name is Erin Hogan, and I'm a longtime friend and former co-worker of the extraordinary Sarah, known affectionately to many as "Plant." Today, I'm reaching out to our community to ask for your support for a woman who has always been a pillar of strength and compassion for others.
Sarah recently received a diagnosis of POEMS syndrome, a rare blood disorder affecting the nerves and other vital systems (estimated to affect only a tiny fraction of the population). For over two years, Sarah has bravely endured a growing list of challenging symptoms, including increasing pain, weakness, neuropathy, overwhelming fatigue, and eyesight issues. Despite these hardships, she has consistently met each day with incredible resilience and a radiant smile, rarely burdening others with her struggles.
POEMS syndrome is a serious condition that can progress quickly without treatment. It can manifest in various ways, including leg weakness, breathing difficulties, organ involvement, and skin changes. While there is currently no cure, aggressive treatments such as radiation, chemotherapy, and potentially a costly stem cell transplant offer hope for managing the disease and improving Sarah's long-term outlook.
The impact of POEMS has already been significant. Sarah's ability to work has been limited, and the accumulating medical expenses are substantial.
Sarah is more than just a friend; she is a force for good in the world. Her unwavering commitment to fighting for equality and serving the underprivileged is truly inspiring. Now, it's our turn to stand alongside her and provide the support she so deserves.
We are asking for your help to ease Sarah's financial burden and ensure she can access the best possible medical care. Your contribution will directly support her treatment journey, allowing her to focus on healing and working towards returning to the active and purposeful life she cherishes.
Please consider donating to this campaign and sharing it with your network. Let's show Sarah the power of community and help her "Plant" her feet firmly on the path to recovery.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
