You can go from cleaning your house and doing yard work one day and the next you wake up in the hospital finding out you had a stroke.
It's wild how hard life can hit...my mom is strong and has already been through some medical struggles in the past where you're left helpless physically and being reminded there are times in our lives where we need to ask for help....
my mom has already survived breast cancer ( finding out she had cancer when getting tested to give my grandaddy a kidney) .. years later she was laid up in bed for months before able to get back surgery... Both times I(daughter) and thankfully some close friends/family were able to be there and support emotionally and on occasion physically....
Knowing that we've been through struggles similar before gives me hope that we will make it through this hard time as well...feeling determined and motivated to make it happen.
Unfortunately the stroke was pretty significant and has severely impacted her right arm and leg...(her dominant side) there are things to be thankful for and I'm holding onto those thoughts and facts as tightly as I can.
She is young enough that her muscles on left side (her bad side from back issue) are able to hold her up enough to help me with the transitions from bed to wheelchair etc for the next many many months...
From what I gather it's going to be a long road....
To add to the unfortunate circumstances she does not have insurance...so we were denied the opportunity to get in-patient rehab and have been waiting in the hospital for other assisted facilities to hopefully except our case for charity....
this many days in hospital is also going be be another layer of scary...we have always lived paycheck to paycheck. Like many of us now, my mom and I have lived together for a long time due to financial strains. Thankful to be available to be there and be able to be a home care provider for her...but understandably terrified about how we are going to be keeping up with our normal bills...and those hospital bills...I really am scared ...
We had just established a nice routine my mom and I both using our free time to enjoy watching my first niece her first grandbaby. Which we still look forward to being able to do that one day.. the road will be long and will take a lot of work on both our ends to make it happen but for all the joys and people we love we will do our best to stay determined and motivated to getting back to a new normal.
The fears of the costs to come are very scary...not just the bills but of course her meds that will need to be on board for life are not cheap... And they are absolutely necessary..denied medicare but will reapply as soon as we are able..
We both are people who do it all and make it happen....but I think this time we do need help from the village...we are all struggling so our village can only do so much...beyond thankful to have to love and support we have.... And so thankful I am able to physically and mentally take on these challenges ahead...
I am not one to ask for help...so this is an experience to remind me to do so.
So please...if you can..we could really use the help
