My name is Shyya Combs, and I’m currently in treatment for breast cancer.

On December 24, 2024, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 PR+ ER+ HER2- Grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) breast cancer. While I’m incredibly grateful for early detection, a phenomenal medical team, and unwavering support from family and friends, the journey has still been overwhelming; mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially.

Chemotherapy, surgery, and upcoming radiation treatments have drastically changed my daily life. Like many others facing this diagnosis, I’ve had to navigate FMLA, reduced income from short-term disability, and the difficulty of continuing to work during treatment just to stay afloat.

Despite careful budgeting and support from some amazing resources, the mounting expense (from basic living costs to ongoing medical bills) have become more than I can manage alone.

I never imagined I would be in this position. But cancer doesn’t just affect your health; it impacts your livelihood and long-term financial stability. As a single parent, with my daughter preparing to return to college in August, the strain is especially heavy right now.

I'm humbly asking for support to help get through the next few months, help that will go directly toward medical costs, daily expenses, and maintaining a sense of normalcy for my daughter and I.

Cancer is a lifelong journey. Even after remission, there’s a constant need for care and monitoring to stay well. Your support means more than just financial relief; it’s hope, strength, and a reminder that I’m not alone in this fight.
