Standing in Faith: Help Rafael Fight Chronic Kidney Disease

Dear Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers,

From the very beginning of this journey, I’ve trusted that God is in control—and even in the hardest moments, I continue to stand firm in that truth.

On September 2024, my 13-year-old son Rafael Ariel was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome after a biopsy of his kidneys was established the strain came back as C1QN, a rare and aggressive kidney disease that has already progressed to renal failure. Before that day, Rafael was perfectly healthy—no major issues, just a growing boy full of life. But everything changed in an instant. His face, legs, and feet swelled, his stomach was in pain, and he became severely ill almost overnight.

Since then, our lives have been consumed by hospital visits, intense treatments, and the search for a life-saving kidney transplant. Rafael now undergoes regular dialysis, takes heavy medications like steroids, diuretics, and immunosuppressants, and endures physical changes and emotional exhaustion that no child should ever face.

As a mother, I’ve had to make incredibly difficult choices. I lost my job in order to be by Rafael’s side and care for him full-time—while also raising my younger son, who is still trying to make sense of everything happening around him. 

The emotional weight is heavy, but so is the financial one. Between medical bills, dialysis, travel costs, and preparing for transplant-related expenses, we simply cannot carry this burden alone anymore.

So today, I’m humbly asking for your help.

Querida familia, amigos y queridos desconocidos: 

Desde el comienzo de este camino, he confiado en que Dios tiene el control, e incluso en los momentos más difíciles, me mantengo firme en esa verdad. En septiembre de 2024, a mi hijo Rafael Ariel, de 13 años, le diagnosticaron síndrome nefrólogo, una enfermedad renal rara y agresiva que ya había progresado a insuficiencia renal. Antes de ese día, Rafael gozaba de perfecta salud: sin problemas importantes, solo un niño en crecimiento y lleno de vida. Pero todo cambió en un instante. Se le hincharon la cara, las piernas y los pies, le dolía el estómago y enfermó gravemente casi de la noche a la mañana.

Desde entonces, nuestras vidas han estado consumidas por visitas al hospital, tratamientos intensos y la búsqueda de un trasplante de riñón que le salvara la vida. Rafael ahora se somete a diálisis regularmente, toma medicamentos fuertes como esteroides, diuréticos e inmunosupresores, y soporta cambios físicos y agotamiento emocional que ningún niño debería enfrentar jamás. 

Como madre, he tenido que tomar decisiones increíblemente difíciles. Perdí mi trabajo para poder estar al lado de Rafael y cuidarlo a tiempo completo, mientras criaba a mi hijo menor, quien todavía intenta comprender todo lo que sucede a su alrededor.

El peso emocional es grande, pero también lo es el económico. Entre las facturas médicas, la diálisis, los gastos de viaje y la preparación para el trasplante, ya no podemos llevar esta carga solos. 

Por eso, hoy les pido humildemente su ayuda. 

• Si pueden donar, cada donación, grande o pequeña, tiene un impacto directo en la atención de Rafael.

 • Si se sienten llamados, ser donante vivo de riñón podría darle a mi hijo una segunda oportunidad. 

• Y si no pueden donar económicamente, por favor, recen, compartan su historia y llévennos en sus corazones. 

Sé que este es un camino largo y difícil, pero creo en los milagros y en la bondad de las personas. Gracias por ser parte de nuestro camino.
