Dear friends, alumni from Sri’s college, and well-wishers,

I am writing more than a year after my husband, and a dear friend Sri (Sri Narayan, Class of 1988 B.Tech Mining, IIT-ISM) passed away after getting caught up in the second wave of COVID-19 while in Delhi in April 2021.

Sri, a meritorious student from Madhubani in Bihar in India, worked hard to earn his B.Tech, M.S. in Mining Engineering, and PhD. in business administration from IIT-ISM, Dhanbad and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Subsequently, he was an Associate Professor at Oakland University at Michigan for almost 15 years. His last engagement was with IIM-Kashipur, which he was winding up, and he was heading to the US to join us (his family) when this unfortunate event in Delhi took him away from his family forever.

It has now been more than a year since we lost him. We all can appreciate how hard it is on families that face financial challenges due to the sudden demise of a working parent, especially when only one parent is the bread earner. As I work to transition from being a homemaker to a bread earner, particularly to manage the college education of both of our kids, I appreciate the continued support from many of Sri’s IIT-ISM batchmates.

In one of my conversations with Sri’s batch mates, it was recommended that I should, with their support, initiate a fundraiser to raise money for our kids’ college education. I must mention that Sri and I have two kids, one daughter in her junior year at college (Michigan State Univ.) and one son who is a rising HS senior and will head to college next year.

Accordingly, I, with the support of Sri’s 88’ class batch mates, appeal to all his friends, IIT-ISM alumni and well-wishers to support us with generous contributions that will go directly for the benefit of both of our kid’s education. Please also spread the word around so that this campaign can reach out to all those who can help.
