This past week, a very dear community member’s husband faced immediate deportation as a result of America's current immigration laws. While at work, and unbeknownst to her, her husband was given an option: leave within the next two hours or face prison time followed by deportation. Choosing to leave on his own, he returned to their home and left her a letter. This letter she would carry with her the next day, reading it hundreds of times. They both are documented immigrants from Nepal. His work visa was valid until 2029, and he was in the process of receiving his green card, with no criminal record or any kind of violations.
They both lived in the States for 9 long years, working tirelessly to achieve their shared dreams. The couple worked multiple jobs and many hours, her husband sometimes working 16-18 hour shifts to buy themselves a beautiful home and a new car. Here they have lived for four months, until they suddenly received a letter that stated that he needed to either show up in court the day before the letter was read or he would be deported that day. When he went to the court, he was given a choice to either leave the country within 2 hours or go to jail for the next 90 days and then be deported. He left right away even without having the chance to say goodbye to his wife. When she got off from work, she called him tirelessly, arriving home to a letter, an untouched closet filled with his clothing, and most painfully, her husband and biggest supporter gone without a trace. She didn’t sleep at all that night, but still showed up for work the next day with a smile on her face as she greeted the children in her classroom. It wasn’t until 30 minutes before her shift ended that she told her coworkers what had happened the day before.
She is scared, heartbroken, and unsure how to move forward. Now, without her husband, she is facing a $3,000 mortgage payment as well as a car payment on her own. With the uncertainty she is currently faced with, her plan is to sell her home, furniture, and car and return to Nepal to be with him. However, this process could take a while, so we are currently looking for donations to help her pay her bills until she can sell their home.
This woman, who would like to remain unnamed, and her husband are both the kindest and most hardworking people, blindsided and separated as a result of the horrific state of America's politics. Please help us support her while she prepares to reunite with her husband.
