On January 13th, at approximately 3:30 p.m., I was participating in a protest alongside roughly 100 other demonstrators at The Whipple, when I was brutally assaulted by at least eight ICE officers. Despite the presence of many protesters, the officers singled me out and targeted me specifically for exercising my right to free speech. I did not fight, flee, or resist. Even so, I was treated like a terrorist. The irony isn’t lost on me.
The most likely reason I was singled out is visibility, not behavior. I’m 6’3”, I was using a megaphone, and I have a smart mouth, doing exactly what peaceful protest and free speech are meant to look like. At no point did I threaten anyone or incite violence.
I was also charged and have to appear in federal court.
While the physical injuries will heal, the financial impact will not disappear so easily. I am fighting back and am currently seeking legal representation. I was wearing a body camera during the incident and believe I have strong evidence that my case should be dismissed, but I will still need a qualified attorney to defend my rights and hold those responsible accountable.
If you know me personally, you know how difficult it is for me to ask for help. Unfortunately, legal expenses add up quickly, and as a tattooer, I’m temporarily unable to work while I recover. That loss of income, combined with mounting legal costs, has put me in a difficult position.
Any funds raised will go towards medical bills and basic living costs until I can return to work If donations exceed those costs, the remaining funds will be donated to the ACLU to support broader civil liberties efforts.
This experience will not deter me. I am committed to this fight, and I will not stop. I’ll be back on the streets as soon as I am able.
No justice.
No peace.
With gratitude and resolve,
Adam
