My name is Tim Schnupp, co-chair of the Tribune Content News Guild. For the past four years, I have had the honor of serving on the Tribune Joint Table Bargaining Committee. Together, we achieved a hard-won victory, securing a fair first contract for our members against a determined hedge-fund-style employer. This journey was fraught with challenges, but we persevered, thanks in no small part to the unwavering dedication of Wendy Fox Weber.

She stood toe-to-toe with Alden Global Capital and emerged victorious, ensuring that hundreds of union families now have better, more affordable health insurance – among other big contract wins. Wendy was our MVP, our secret weapon, and our beacon of hope.

Now, Wendy's sudden dismissal after 35 years of dedicated service shocked everyone. Her position was "eliminated" just weeks after the contract was signed. This action by the employer is not just questionable; it seems a blatant attempt to silence our most vocal and public leader. Is this Alden’s way of warning our members against standing up for their rights, as Wendy did time and again?

The timing of this layoff, just three months working under our new first contract, seems too convenient and is interpreted by many to be a calculated move to undermine our union’s collective strength. It certainly sends a chilling message to all who dare to advocate for fairness and justice.

While many within the Guild are working to address this situation, there are immediate needs that must be met. Wendy, who has given so much to our cause, now faces the harsh reality of unemployment. She needs our support to put food on the table, pay bills, and navigate any unforeseen emergencies.

This is where we come in. We must show Wendy the compassion and solidarity that the employer so clearly lacks. This is not just another cut to local news coverage, it is an attack on the working-class individuals who tirelessly provide it.
