Stand with Wendy After Her Life-Altering Fall

Dear friends, colleagues, family, and others,

My name is Wendy Porrata. I’ve worked for social services for the last 23 years and as a social worker for approximately 12 years. I humbly ask for your support. I understand that we are all going through hard times, but since my severe fall in 2022, I have been unable to continue working since 2023. Presently, I’m suffering from severe injuries and require a lot of medical follow-up. My home is going into foreclosure and my legal fight is over; they want a certain amount beyond my capabilities, and I don’t want to be homeless. Most of these home issues were caused by the storm Ida, leaving me with additional stress, a sense of hopelessness, and financial hardship. The loss of my soulmate James to cancer has been devastating, and I haven’t been able to work through my grief and pain. In memory of James and my loneliness I got Jamie (puppy) to be my best friend and baby. I’m struggling with the idea of fostering or having him rescued. It would cause me sorrow to separate from him. It’s hard to even buy his food and is all I have left. However, if I have to take another loss for his wellbeing then I will have to try and cope. I won’t even talk about how far behind I am with school loans. I even need metro cards to attend appointments, and I feel somewhat ashamed to ask. I will attach an article that speaks to my story; it's too long for here but an easy, fast, and interesting read.
