Vladislav Krasnov is a 28-year-old Russian with no criminal history who has spent more than 600 days in ICE detention facing the imminent threat of deportation. As an outspoken, pro-democracy activist, Vlad faced political oppression in his home country and was ultimately forced to flee for safety. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin intensified its crackdown on dissent, making pro-democracy activists like Vlad increasingly vulnerable to persecution. After fleeing the growing repression in Russia, Vlad came to the United States seeking safety and the opportunity to openly express his beliefs. Instead, he found himself detained by ICE, where he has spent over two years fighting for freedom and security.

Before his current detention, Vlad spent 444 days in immigration custody. After his release, he did everything asked of him. He attended every mandatory ICE appointment and never sidestepped the legal process.

"Vladislav has complied with every legal requirement while pursuing protection in the United States," said attorney Wallie Mason, counsel for Mr. Krasnov. "Our concern extends beyond the legal issues in his case. We are also deeply concerned about his deteriorating health and the need for appropriate medical care while he remains in detention."

During his prolonged detention, we have watched Vlad's autoimmune condition, vitiligo, worsen amid limited access to the medical care he needs. His experience reflects broader concerns about medical care in ICE detention facilities. Medical neglect in ICE facilities has skyrocketed: as of June 2026, approximately 500 detainees across the country allege medical neglect in federal lawsuits spanning 33 states. As the Trump administration continues to expand detentions in the US, the system struggles to provide adequate medical care to those under its custody.

Despite these hardships, Vladislav has remained resilient. He has continued to adhere to the legal process while holding onto the values that compelled him to leave home in search of safety. Even amid the uncertainty of his own legal case, he has looked beyond his own circumstances, helping former immigration detainees understand complicated immigration procedures, connect with community resources, and regain a sense of hope as they rebuild their lives post release.

Today, Vlad’s future hangs in the balance. Every day he remains in detention is another day separated from the life he hopes to build. We are launching this legal defense campaign to ensure he has the opportunity to pursue protection through the legal process. Every contribution will go directly toward the legal and litigation expenses required to continue his case, including attorney fees, expert evaluations, medical documentation, translations, and other critical costs. With your support, Vladislav can continue fighting for the opportunity to live safely in the country he sought refuge.
