Help a disabled veteran continue to advocate
Nebraska veterans are in crisis, and we are trying to help them, but we need your help too. Retired Sergeant Katy Eilers has been protesting the humanitarian violations and deep-seated corruption at the Omaha Veterans Affairs Hospital for 227 days, as of October 29, 2024. She has filed numerous patient advocate complaints and 3 congressional complaints, also seeking help from Congress members out of state. The problem is all of these complaints are handled internally by the VA that is being complained about.
Veteran suicide in Nebraska has far surpassed the national average and continues to rise. We need to get a lawyer that will help us take on the federal government, not just on behalf of Katy, but on behalf of veterans and their families throughout the state of Nebraska. We firmly believe the lack of services provided at this hospital, in conjunction with the prison-like environment of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, is to blame for this increase. We need enough money to hire a lawyer and continue our protest. Katy has driven over 2,000 miles just to protest, and changes are happening, but she cannot continue this without help. Every dollar donated helps our mission of making our Veterans Hospital about the veterans again. We want to elevate the amazing staff by clearing out the corruption.
As it stands, women have to ask permission to use the bathroom, but men do not. The fluorescent lights are left on in the patient rooms overnight. If they are allowed outside at all, it is in a rusty cage on top of the building. We are not allowed to even have a video chat with our children or an unmonitored phone call. Katy was admitted to the psychiatric ward without being medically cleared first, then she was not fed a diet she could consume and had to be transferred to the ICU within 3 days due to metabolic acidosis from starvation, where she received a PICC line and was transferred back to the PICU.

We can prove the negligence, malpractice, and corruption with audio and video evidence. We just need a lawyer to sit and listen to us. Please help if you can and thank you!! Beep Beep

I am one of a growing number of veterans in Nebraska trying to bring attention to serious issues in the Omaha Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Members of the administration, have for years ignored and/or encouraged a toxic environment that has led to an increase in veteran suicide in Nebraska. There have been countless incidents of malpractice, HIPAA violations, and violations of our constitutional rights, which have been ignored or covered up.
We've tried the local news, but they choose to ignore us. We've tried politicians like Deb Fischer and Tony Vargas, but again we were ignored. Countless veterans in the Omaha and Iowa area have died, and many more are not receiving the treatment we deserve. This isn't about politics; it's about human lives, and they have chosen to ignore our voices. Both Don Bacon and Dan Osborn have done what they can to help, but it's not enough. We need people to be held accountable for their actions, especially if it means incarceration.
This has had an adverse effect on my family, members of the veteran community, and my own personal health. My main goal is to bring national attention to a serious issue and to fix a system that is severely broken. A new hospital will be pointless if you don't fix the problem within the system. I want to secure legal assistance not just for me but for any veteran or their family members who may have been affected. Most employees at the Omaha VA Medical Center are great people, but it only takes a few to sink a ship.
