Hello everyone. My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on November 3rd. Upon researching this disease, this is one of the worst cancers out there. He went to urgent care because of pain in his abdomen, and they found a tumor roughly the size of a baseball on the head of his pancreas. The surgeon has discovered that this massive tumor is too large and too close to very large arteries to operate and remove in its current state. He started chemotherapy on December 16th to shrink it. He will have 3 sessions every 2 weeks to start, then re-scans to see if it has shrunk. If not, more chemo or radiation; if it has, then surgery.
Here is where he needs help. His insurance is making him pay out of pocket $500 each chemo, and he has met his quota on his 10 doctor's appointments, so they are now telling him he has to pay for those as well. His insurance is not paying for the appointments, and Medicare has declined them as well. His insurance has been a nightmare with authorizations and coverages. And not to mention, all of his appointments are 24 miles round trip, some days having to make 2 trips a day for care 3-4 times a week.
We are also still waiting on some scans for diagnosis of what state of cancer it is. Right now, we have a stage 2, but without CT and PET scans, we are not 100% sure that is accurate. We are praying that this treatment is thorough and all he needs to get his surgery and put this awful thing behind him, and get back to normal. Thank you, everyone, for your time and consideration.
