Our Fight to Protect Twiggs County: Standing Against the Data Center Invasion

In the heart of rural Middle Georgia lies Twiggs County, a place where rolling timberlands stretch under wide blue skies, and neighbors know each other by name. For generations, families here have cherished the quiet life—farming the land, raising kids in safe communities, and drawing water from wells that have sustained us through droughts and floods.

But in September 2025, that peace was shattered when county commissioners approved a massive data center project on 291 acres of rezoned timberland, despite overwhelming opposition from residents like us.

It started quietly enough. Developers eyed our county for its cheap land and proximity to power lines, proposing a "hyperscale" facility that would devour electricity equivalent to an entire city—straining Georgia Power's grid and potentially hiking rates for everyone. At packed commission meetings, voices rose in unison: farmers worried about depleted aquifers, parents fearing health risks from constant humming servers, and elders lamenting the loss of the rural character that defines us.

Adding to these worries, the proposed site encroaches on lands with deep cultural significance to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, whose ancestral territories span this region. Muscogee citizens have vocally opposed the project, emphasizing how it threatens sacred sites and ecological ties along the Ocmulgee River corridor. This development risks interfering with the ongoing expansion of the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park. Moreover, the facility could devastate central Georgia's fragile black bear population, an isolated group already under management for conservation, by fragmenting habitats and disrupting wildlife corridors essential for their survival. But on September 18, the rezoning passed, promising jobs that many doubt will benefit locals, while ignoring the long-term costs to our way of life.

We, the citizens of Twiggs County, aren't backing down. Inspired by successful blocks in other Georgia counties, we're banding together to challenge this decision legally.

That's why we've launched this GoFundMe: to cover legal fees, expert witnesses, and court costs in our fight against this data center. Every dollar brings us closer to justice—

Join us. Donate today and help preserve the soul of rural Georgia. Together, we can ensure our children's future isn't powered by profit at the expense of our home.

Thank you for standing with Twiggs County Citizens Against Data Center Development.
