Stand with True: Legal, Medical, and Car Assistance

I'm raising funds on behalf of True (they/he) to get his car out of impound, pay a $6,000+ hospital bill, loss of wages, and legal costs as a result of an encounter with Tacoma Police.

Below is a short summary of events. If you have questions or are able to provide legal support, feel free to contact me directly.

Early March 5th True was stopped by Tacoma Police for non working headlights (they were on). This stop quickly turned violent when a TPD officer broke the drivers window and pulled True out of the car, and slammed them on the ground. They were taken to the hospital as a result of injuries sustained during the arrest and then taken to the Pierce County jail.

After being asked which jail they wanted to be placed in, which was men, they were placed into the women's jail and their gender on the booking site was changed from x to female.

While in custody, True was not given the prescriptions from the emergency room to treat the concussion they sustained from the arrest. Additionally, the jail was made aware of other daily prescriptions and did not provide them.

After being released, they were made aware that their car was impounded. When trying to retrieve it, the arresting officer executed a search warrant (despite having already issuing car-related tickets). They police told them it would be held up to 10 days and that they would be notified when it was released from police authorization. The car was released 3 days later on March 10th, and True only found out when they called to find out ask why it was taking so long on the 20th. It incurs a daily fee of around $127.

On March 20th, after not hearing about the car, True called and found it had been released on March 10th and was now accruing fees. To date, it will cost $1400 to get it out, and will go to auction in early April if not.

True has not been able to work since their arrest, has been without transportation, and has had to revisit the emergency room twice since the incident.
