My name is Ben Johnson, and I’m asking for help for my friends Brian and Jenna White during the most difficult chapter of their lives.
In just a few weeks, they will welcome their daughter, Kaida Zae White. But instead of preparing only for a joyful arrival, they are preparing for a fight for their daughter’s life and future.
During Jenna’s pregnancy, doctors discovered that Kaida carries a rare ARID1B genetic mutation, along with several serious medical complications. Her brain ventricles are significantly enlarged, creating pressure that doctors believe could lead to severe cognitive challenges. In recent weeks, additional complications have appeared involving her heart and kidneys.
Because of the complexity of her condition, Brian and Jenna will travel to Salt Lake City on March 27th, where Kaida will be delivered via C-section on April 3rd at the University of Utah Hospital, surrounded by a full team of specialists prepared to care for her. Their medical team has already told them to prepare for at least four weeks in the NICU following her birth.
That means weeks away from home, living day-to-day near the hospital while their newborn daughter receives the care she needs.
As you can imagine, the emotional weight of this has been overwhelming.
The financial pressure has also begun to grow quickly. Brian and Jenna have already received over $50,000 in medical bills, many of which their insurance has declined so far. With the upcoming delivery, NICU care, travel, and time away from work ahead of them, those costs are expected to rise significantly.
Brian and Jenna also run their own small business, Alchemist Promo, an apparel and promotional printing company they built from a small garage operation into a thriving business serving more than 100 local and national clients. As entrepreneurs, their work depends on their daily presence to keep things running.
Over the past two months, they have had 3–15 medical appointments each week as doctors closely monitor Kaida’s condition. These constant appointments have required them to spend significant time away from their business while preparing for their daughter’s arrival.
Despite the challenges they’re facing, Brian and Jenna remain the kind of people who show up for others. Brian is a U.S. Air Force veteran and former social worker, and Jenna previously worked as a registered nurse. Even today, they volunteer their time helping build community initiatives, including a run club raising money for veterans living with PTSD.
They have spent their lives helping others.
Now their family needs that same community to stand beside them.
This fundraiser is meant to help lift some of the financial weight so Brian and Jenna can focus on what matters most right now: being present for their daughter and giving Kaida the best chance possible.
Funds raised will help with:
• Mounting medical bills
• Travel and lodging during their extended stay in Utah
• Time away from work while they care for Kaida
• NICU-related expenses and ongoing medical care
Every donation — no matter the size — will help ease the pressure on their family during this incredibly difficult time.
If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this page can help their story reach more people.
Brian and Jenna have spent their lives supporting others. Now we have the opportunity to support them.
