As many of you know, we recently purchased and began operating The Tea Trolley in Delta, PA — a historic Victorian home that has served this community as a tea room for over a decade. We stepped into this venture with full excitement, proper business licensing, food facility permits, insurance, and even approval as a satellite tasting room through the PLCB.

Shortly before our Valentine’s Dinner event, we were notified that the property’s zoning classification limits the number of guests and the type of service that may be offered. This came as a surprise, as the tea room has operated in a similar manner for many years prior to our ownership.

After consulting with legal counsel, it appears that the path forward will require a formal zoning hearing with Delta Borough. In order to protect the business, our employees, and the future of this beloved community gathering place, we must retain legal representation and navigate the proper appeals process.

Legal fees for zoning hearings, filings, representation, and potential follow-up proceedings can add up quickly. As a small, family-owned business that has only just taken ownership, these unexpected expenses are significant.

We are committed to doing everything the right way and working through the appropriate legal channels to seek clarity and, we hope, a resolution that allows The Tea Trolley to continue hosting afternoon teas, special events, and community gatherings as it has for years.
