Justice for the RPS Five: Defend Workers' Rights!
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, over 30 dedicated Richmond Public Schools (RPS) Transportation workers stood up—not just for themselves, but for fairness and dignity in the workplace. After their shifts, they peacefully and respectfully attended the RPS School Board meeting to advocate for the retention of their two-hour activity pay, a critical part of their compensation.
These workers were simply exercising their constitutional rights to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly.
But instead of being heard, five of these respected, longtime RPS employees were targeted, falsely accused, and fired. On April 25, they were abruptly ordered to return their buses and report to Albert V. Norrell School. There, they were met by HR and handed termination letters signed by the superintendent, falsely claiming they had participated in an "unlawful strike."
This was not a strike. This was not misconduct. This was a clear, unlawful act of retaliation and intimidation.
RPS management is using fear to silence the voices of hardworking people who only asked to be treated with fairness and respect. This abuse of authority threatens not just these five workers—it sends a chilling message to everyone who dares to speak up.
We must not let this stand.
We are raising funds to support the RPS Five as they fight for justice—whether that’s covering lost income, legal fees, or helping them and their families stay afloat during this time. No one should lose their livelihood for standing up for their rights.
An attack on one is an attack on ALL. Stand with the RPS Five. Stand for justice. Stand for the rights of every worker who refuses to be silenced.
