The Murphy Family needs our help:
The past few years have been nonstop for the Murphy family. Logan (my cousin) and Mary, married in 2017, welcomed their first child, Callum, in 2021. After a traumatic birth and 7 weeks in the NICU, they learned that their son had a rare genetic mutation that would severely impact his development. Most of his life has been financially and mentally overwhelming, as the Murphys have traveled around the country to get him the best treatments, therapies, and opinions. Now, at 4 years old, Callum has had six surgeries and requires 100% assistance in his daily life. His diagnoses include refractory epilepsy, dystonia, global developmental delay, neurogenic bladder and bowels, and several other concerns. Mary recently decided to become his full-time caregiver, an overwhelming feat, especially with having their 15-month-old daughter in the home as well. They have rarely asked for help; it’s not in their nature to do so. They had their health and their family, and that was enough to keep them going.
Unfortunately, on Wednesday, July 9th, Logan was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma. The disease has spread from his leg, through his lymph nodes, to his liver, lungs, bones, and abdominal wall. He is only 35 years old. This news rocked their family, who were still reeling from a challenging year with their son, Callum, who was hospitalized for over a month at the beginning of 2025. There has been no relief, no break from the storm. Now, on top of extra costs and cares that are typically associated with a medically complex child (therapies, supplements, supplies…), they have to shift their focus towards Logan, his cancer treatments, and keeping him healthy. He begins his first round of immunotherapy this week, and first and foremost, the family asks for prayers that he is responsive to these medications and that his side effects are few.
When asked how to best support their family at this time, they mentioned donations for the following services. Anything given will be used to support the family directly.
  • Childcare expenses
  • Therapy
  • Diet and supplements (Logan is on a strict diet and Callum eats only clean through feeding tube)
  • Home maintenance services
  • Handicap accessible modifications
