Help Us Rebuild The Hive After Devastating Floods
In the early hours of July 5 our beloved sanctuary, The Hive, was hit by a devastating flash flood. With only minutes to gather ourselves, our animals, and evacuate, we watched as the water rose and destroyed so much of what we’ve built together over the years.
We're deeply grateful that everyone in our community is safe and healthy. Our chickens made it, and we were even able to find our beehives... though we still don’t know if many of the bees survived.
The Hive is home to four families, and two of those households lost their homes and most of their possessions in the flood. One home requires a complete restoration (new flooring, cabinets, bathroom and kitchen) while the other needs significant drywall and baseboard repair. Both families are left to rebuild from almost nothing.
In addition to the homes, here is the damage we’ve assessed so far:
- All HVAC units on the property are destroyed and need full replacement
- Our golf cart, which supports much of the daily work on the land, was completely flooded and is no longer functioning
- Our cold plunge chiller was completely damaged and is inoperable
- Our fence is broken and needs repair
- One propane tank was washed away, and the second was punctured and leaking
- Our shed, which held all our power tools, was flooded and all tools were damaged
- The Hive office was flooded, destroying valuables and technology
- Our sister company, The Journey Back to Soul, lost most of its shop inventory
We do have insurance, but sadly much of this is not covered, and the cost to rebuild is overwhelming.
We are humbled and deeply moved that over 40 people came out today to help with hands-on support, cleaning, lifting, assessing damage, and simply showing up for us in this time of need. To everyone who has already given your time and love today, thank you.
We are now inviting our wider community, those who've found healing, refuge, or inspiration through The Hive, to join us however you can.
Your contribution, no matter the size, will help us restore the homes of our families, rebuild the spaces, replace what was lost, and keep this sanctuary alive for everyone who comes here to find connection, love, and healing.
We also hold in our prayers the many other families in our area who have been impacted by these floods.
