Stand with Taras and His Loved Ones

Please, support Taras Horodetskyi — my cousin from Ukrainian who was injured defending his homeland and his family.

First Lieutenant Taras Horodetskyi, is a true Ukrainian hero. A devoted husband and father of two sons, he answered the call to defend his homeland the moment russia launched its brutal invasion.

With three graduate degrees in engineering, IT, and oil drilling, Taras was appointed commander of a communications unit due to his exceptional skills. His bravery and leadership were recognized early on when he was awarded for courage and strength of spirit.

While on a combat mission in the Zaporizhzhia region, Taras’s vehicle came under heavy fire and was engulfed in flames (see the photo). He has no memory of escaping the inferno — only of regaining consciousness after a nearby explosion.

Despite severe injuries, he managed to apply a tourniquet to his arm and attempted to return to his unit. His legs, riddled with shrapnel, gave out, forcing him to crawl nearly a mile before collapsing at the station.

Taras was rushed to intensive care, where doctors diagnosed him with multiple fractures, shrapnel wounds, a cerebral contusion, and an open head injury.

Though he survived, the road ahead is long and uncertain.

The harsh reality is that the Ukrainian medical system is overwhelmed. When I visited Taras, his wounds hadn’t been treated for over two days. The hospital lacked basic supplies — even a thermometer. His wife had to purchase one herself because he was running a fever. He was in unbearable pain, crying out for relief, but there were no viable painkillers available.

I am devastated and furious — but anger won’t heal him.
