We are the Monahan’s and below is a condensed version of Sydni’s story.
“Just two months after giving birth to our second child, In the summer of 2022 I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. It was in my breast, liver, lymph nodes, and bones. Just over a year from my initial diagnosis the cancer spread to my lungs, causing pulmonary lymphangitic carcinomatosis and I had to rely on oxygen until we could get the disease somewhat under control enough for me to breathe on my own. In the summer of 2024 I had to have emergency brain surgery to remove a large tumor on my cerebellum. After this I had 5 rounds of radiation on my brain and several months later another round due to more cancerous spots. In November of 2024, the cancer took over my lungs once again and I was reliant on oxygen around the clock for a month until I could breathe on my own again. Over this time, I had tried 4 different chemotherapy’s, which had all stopped working and endured several big medical issues leading to hospitalizations. In addition to the traditional cancer treatment I received, I was also open to and tried many different holistic approaches as well which I believe were also helpful.
Now this leads me to my most recent update, June of 2025. The cancer seems to be taking over my lungs once again and it’s created tumors in my right breast and left lymph nodes in my neck, causing nerve issues on the left side of my body. Today we are setting up in-home and portable oxygen for the third time and I’m starting a new chemotherapy.
Through most of this journey, I have remained employed, doing work that I love as an LCSW. However, the time has come where I’ve needed to take leave from work once again in order to focus more on healing and being present with my husband and our two young children. My husband has done an amazing job balancing working and caring for us, yet the financial burden can be overwhelming with me not working.
Our hearts continue to be filled with so much gratitude for all the love and support we have received from so many wonderful people near and far along this journey. Our faith remains strong! Please know that prayers, healing energy, and positive vibrations continue to be more than enough, but if you have the desire and ability, financial support is greatly appreciated while we navigate more of the unknown.”
