Hello! I’m reaching out to you, my friends, family, and acquaintances on behalf of my brother,

Allan Smith Dorsey, also known to some of us as Smitty. While I believe all of my family are

good-hearted people, we also suffer from hearts that aren’t great mechanically. We suffer as

well from a reluctance to share much of our lives beyond our visible personas! Therefore it may

well surprise you that Smitty is facing a critically invasive heart procedure that will require a

hospitalization lasting weeks followed by months of recovery at home. Post recovery he will depend on an artificial heart pump. This occurs at a time when his ability to work and his financial resources have been substantially depleted.

Smitty served as a Peace Corps volunteer, and later as the director of Brazil volunteer training. He also is an active member of his church, a founder of a shower program for unhoused people, a management consultant to Southern California congregations, and a support to family members both in the United States and Brazil. Smitty has given a great deal of his heart and treasure to his friends and community; it is so fitting that now we can give back.

I will begin by contributing to this GoFundMe page, and I invite you to do so. Your donation,

no matter how small, will help cover his out-of-pocket expenses, including those that insurance will not: home nursing care, medical supplies, specialty bathing and bed products, and long term cardiac rehabilitation. As he recovers first in the hospital, and then at home, Smitty will be well served as we

come together as a community of his friends and show him how much he means to us.
