Hi, I’m Brian — Sherien was our neighbor, and her daughter is one of my daughter’s friends. Erin and I have been a part of all three of the kids' stories at school and in the neighborhood. A number of you have as well.

This story and ask is about keeping the four of them off the street.

Sherien is a loving single mom of three children. She has lived in Orlando for over 12 years, working hard as a substitute teacher and Uber driver to support her family.

After escaping an abusive marriage 6 months ago, she’s been raising her children alone. Her husband is now in jail—but without his income and without her visa finalized, Sherien’s been fighting to stay afloat with everything she has.

This week, she and her kids are being forced out of their apartment. She has several job leads at FedEx and other places, but is currently stuck.

I have an Airbnb for them to stay in for the week. I am working with her to pay off what is needed first and to work smarter, not just harder. Here is the need.

✅ $200 – Storage unit and moving help (must move out now) by June 9 (we got this)

✅ $300 – Temporary funds for food, gas, and small bills this week while they stay in our Airbnb. (We got this!)

✅ $1,700 – First month + deposit for a safe, subsidized apartment by June 14. (This is going to be the challenge! Subsidized housing is $1200 monthly, and there needs to be a $500 deposit. This is the main ask and need.)

✅ $1200 - Car payment to keep from being impounded

-$250 - Car insurance for two months

-$200 - Application fees for applying to apartments.

Total: $3,850

Super honest, we hit this goal!

All remaining funds will help with non-urgent needs. There are a few of us that are helping to get a secure plan in place so that she can start her job and not be behind on bills and there can be a security moving forward. It is good we are helping with money, but a few of us are going to really lean in and help to move forward smarter, not just harder.

I have been talking to Hinar and Sherien each day. There is no easy button. What I keep hearing is hope and hard work. Yet they have never been here before. I know there are lots of needs in the world. I totally get that funds are limited. Yet the reason I am here is that if you see a need, and you can help, I believe in doing that. This is a critical time, and Sherien is a hard worker and not asking for a lifetime of handouts.
