Stand With Shelly in Her Cancer Journey

My name is Darlene Broders and Shelly Meineke has been my best friend for 46 years. We’ve been through everything together, but nothing like this. This cancer is the hardest and saddest thing I have ever experienced with her. Her & Bob have an undying love for each other, and I can’t imagine what they are going through. He is by her side every minute, and her prognosis is not the most promising, but we are all praying like crazy and doing all we can to help them get through this.

In January, Shelly received the devastating news that she has a rare cancer. It is a baseball-sized tumor in her liver and is Squamous Cell Carcinoma. She has been in and out of the hospital since November. Normally, this cancer is not complicated, but unfortunately, there are no case studies, no history, no former cases where this cancer was ever found in a liver. It is rare to have it in a gallbladder, but unheard of to have it in a liver. Her cancer also tested positive for three different types of cancer cells; it makes this unknown territory. She received her first dose of the highest chemo dosage they have this week and is very sick. The travel expense (she is under the care of the mayo clinic so they have been going back and forth), medical bills, etc., are adding up.
