"Cancer can take away all of my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart, and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever" - Jimmy Valvano
If you don’t know this guy, I’d like to introduce you to our friend Shawn Pappas…aka “RLC”. Married to the love of his life, father of three beautiful kids…and amazing friend to too many to count.
After feeling some pain in his abdomen recently, Shawn got it checked out and was given the unfortunate news that he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Good news is that Lindsay has found an AMAZING group of specialists at MGH. Pancreatic cancer is all his team does- nothing else. They are the all stars of this - and they are really good.
Right now what we know is that surgery is not an option. His tumor is too close to the aorta and there is some spread into his abdominal wall. His team felt very strongly that his best outcome would be achieved with a strong chemotherapy regimen. They plan to reevaluate later. The hope is that the tumor will shrink and surgery might be an option.
Shawn had his first chemo treatment on Saturday Nov. 30th and true to his "badassery", he showed up and worked his shift behind the bar at The Polish Club! Cancer doesn't know who they're messing with.
"Don't give up. Don't ever give up" - Jimmy V
Although Shawn and Lindsay have great jobs, the financial burden is already starting to hit. We are reaching out to you all for any help you can offer. This is going to be a long road with many up's and down's, but there's a reason his nickname is "RLC" (Rec. League Champ) - he doesn't lose...and he's not going to lose this one.
“When you get too tired to fight, then lay down, and rest, and let somebody else fight for you.” - Stuart Scott
And that's where all of us come in. Financial help...Prayers...Meals...A call on the phone....whatever you can do to support Shawn, Lindsay, Taylor, Liv and Jack would be appreciated! #TeamPappas #RLCStrong
